Quick answer: Fuel is not an item you craft — it is stored in a Firewood Shed. Build a shed (10 Sticks + 2 Bronze Nails), chop Short Logs or Sticks into Firewood at the Chopping Spot, then load the shed: 2 Firewood = 20 Fuel. The catch: a shed only feeds stations in its own area, so the oven in your house, the kiln and furnace in the yard, and the alchemy lab each need their own shed.
This is the answer behind how to create fuel, fuel for kiln, add wood in oven and firewood shed searches.
Steps
Unlock and build the Firewood Shed
It is in the Metallurgy branch of the tech tree. Build it from the blueprint (10 Sticks, 2 Bronze Nails). If you don't have nails yet, see Polished Bronze and Bronze Nails.
Chop Firewood
At the Chopping Spot, 1 Short Log gives 10 Firewood (15 with the Axeman perk). Short Logs come from felling trees and digging out the stumps.
Load the shed
Put Firewood into the shed: every 2 Firewood adds 20 Fuel. Firewood Shed I holds 100 Fuel; Firewood Shed II holds 500 and costs barely more.
Place one shed per area
In the recorded 100% run the player had to put a separate shed in the alchemy lab ("I need firewood shed in here") and another indoors for the bread oven.
Recipe won't start even though you have fuel?
The shed serving that area is empty, or the station is in a different area from the shed. Build another shed next to it. The Kitchen Table itself needs no fuel — only heat-based cooking does.
