Quick answer: Squads don't move on their own. Each squad has its own small flag standing next to it. Walk to that flag (not the big flag in the middle of the circle), pick it up, and the squad follows you. Lead them into an enemy flag's circle and stay there until it's captured. Drop the flag to leave the squad guarding a spot.

Players describe it as mercenaries just stood doing nothing, troops not moving and can't pick up the flag. It's almost always the same thing: the squad was never given an order, so it stays at the first flag and the battle is lost.

Quick facts

  • Moving a squad: pick up its own small flag; it follows you
  • Capturing: stand inside the enemy flag's circle with the squad
  • Guarding: drop the flag, or put it in a barricade's flag slot
  • Barricade and spiked barricade: have a flag slot
  • Reinforced barricade: most HP, but no flag slot

How to get them fighting

Find the squad's own flag

It's the small flag beside the squad, not the one in the centre of the blue or red circle.

Pick it up

Walk onto it and pick it up. The squad falls in behind you.

Lead them into the enemy circle

Stand in the area around the enemy flag with the squad until it's captured.

Leave a squad on each captured flag

Drop the flag, or the enemy takes the point back. See Battles for the full win condition.

Putting a squad on a barricade

The barricade and spiked barricade have a flag slot. It's marked by a plus or cross on the ground beside the barricade, which is easy to miss. Put the squad's flag in it and they man the barricade. The reinforced barricade has the most HP but no flag slot, so nobody can man it.
